According to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, they estimated in 2019, lead exposure accounted for 900,000 deaths due to long-term effects lead has on your health. Lead can be found in more products than you think, which is why Arrowhead Brass has over 1,000 certified lead-free products in our portfolio.

In homes built before 1990, there is a higher chance of lead entering your drinking water through household plumbing joints, fixtures, or service lines. It is important to take the initiative of checking old pipes and changing out plumbing valves and fixtures for Arrowhead Brass’ line of lead-free products. Whether it’s a new valve, a push-fitting, supply lines, or more, we have your back and will protect you and your family.

There are a few places in your home where lead is more prevalent. Faucets and copper pipes with lead solder are common areas that can easily be upgraded to lead-free. Contact your local water municipality to learn whether or not the service lines near your home have been upgraded to lower-lead or lead-free pipes.

If your service lines have not been upgraded, there are still a few things you can do to keep your family healthy.

  • Run your water for three-five minutes before using it for things like cooking or drinking. This will help eliminate harmful lead contamination.
  • There are other ways to flush your water lines before use. You can run your dishwasher, take a shower, or do your laundry before cooking or drinking.
  • Use water filters that remove contaminants, like lead, from your water before drinking.
  • Avoid drinking out of hoses that are not attached to lead-free hose bibs or sillcocks.

Remember, even filling a baby pool or watercooler before a game with water that has not been flushed and running through a certified lead-free hose bib, can expose your family to lead.

We also recommend regularly cleaning your kitchen faucet’s screen, which can be known as an aerator. As well as, replacing water filter cartridges in your refrigerator and faucet at the recommended scheduled time by manufacturer’s, and consider replacing pre-2014 faucets with new ones.
