As a product marketing specialist, you are responsible for making our products “fly off the shelf.”
This role is not about demos or presenting product features (although these may sometimes occur virtually and in-person). Instead, this role ties our product strategy to the tactics we need to drive sales and marketing success and achieve results. You will play an integral role in organizing product launches.
You need to know our competitors like the back of your hand: what they do today and what they plan to do in the future. You also know our customers, including how they make their buying decisions. You support strategic insights with market evidence and then use that knowledge to drive the development of positioning and messaging that resonates with buyers and empowers our sales channels to be successful.
What Will You Do?
- Collect Voice of the Customer (VOC) input – through direct communication with customers to identify how customers use our Arrowhead Brass and Champion Irrigation product and what drives their buying behavior. This information will be used to develop product roadmaps that offer high-value solutions to our customers.
- Product development – Create Market Requirements Documents (MRD) that are used by our Product Engineer to develop future products and a strong roadmap. Understand the rough plumbing valve, interior plumbing valve, and irrigation market and identify what products should be positioned for specific market segments.
- Sales and Marketing Support – Help in the development of compelling presentations and collateral that conveys a clear value proposition. Deliver internal sales training on current and new products.
- Collaboration – Develop innovative programs with marketing communications and sales that drive customer demand with an attention to detail and an eye for quality.
- Understand the Buyer’s Process – Know where our buyers get their information, who they are, why they make the decisions they make, and what products they are demanding.
- Performance Tracking – You will work with the data collected through our different programs to track product performance to prove what’s working and what isn’t.
- Market intelligence—be the expert on our buyers, who are they, how they buy and their key buying criteria.
- Understand the competitive landscape—be an expert on our competition and how they are positioned.
- Product Launches – Work with marketing communications to develop new product launches and rereleases of existing products. Help manage the cross-functional implementation of the product launch plan.
In addition to the marketing team, you will regularly collaborate with product development and sales channels; it’s a balancing act that requires strong diplomatic skills, including knowing when to push back and when to dive in.
How Will You Get Here?
- Have 2 years of experience in a market-facing role (e.g. delivering presentations to customers and prospects, conducting competitor analysis and market research)
- Be proficient in productivity applications such as Microsoft Office, Freedcamp, or other project-based programs
- Be comfortable using collaboration and CRM tools such as Active Campaign.
- Be familiar with marketing automation tools such as Google Analytics
- Be a power user of networking tools such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with a proven track record of use
- Have exceptional ROI-tracking skills, able to prove what is –or isn’t—working
- You must be a strong public speaker, comfortable in front of large, senior groups, video conferences, and a solid writer.
- Have excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues, cross-functional teams and third parties. Team player!
- Have at least a bachelor’s degree in business or marketing; MBA preferred.
